Rhythm and beats run through her blood and music is her life. We sat down to chat with Jade to talk about the music scene in Sydney and what people should expect from her sets. Get a taste with the playlist she put together with some of her favourite tracks below!
When did your passion for music begin?
Music has always been a part of my life - I can't remember a time when it wasn't! Growing up, I played the piano and drums and my dad and uncles were DJs/dancers and if you met my mum you'd see why I'm like this. I had a pretty creative and interesting upbringing. I'm very grateful for that.
You've also travelled the world as a professional dancer. Do you think that's impacted the way you DJ?
Absolutely - all the travelling and dancing in different countries exposed me to cultures and people who have influenced my taste or have inspired me somehow in my musical career.
How do you feel about the music scene right now in Australia and is there a stigma or feel a certain expectation being a DJ?
From my experience, the Australian music scene is exciting and diverse though still very young! I know there's a lot I haven't been exposed to yet but it's really exciting watching my friends grow as artists and collaborating. I try to ignore the stigmas around being a DJ, especially being a female DJ. I'm aware the stigma is there but I'm not a traditionalist and so I thrive off pushing boundaries and generally turning negatives into positives.
What should people expect from your sets?
A journey of eclectic beats, sometimes more melodic, sometimes heavier. Always fresh.
You've played a lot of shows, do you recall your favourites?
That's a hard question! I'd have to say Splendour in the Grass 2017 was pretty great and more recently, I supported Tkay Maidza in Melbourne - she's incredible!
What artists are you listening to right now?
I'm hooked on Tyler, The Creator's' album 'Flower Boy and SZA's' album Ctrl'. There are a few producers who I love at the moment as well, ANKA, Dreamchild and WIZE to name a few.
Describe yourself in three words.
Wild, Energetic and Fun.
